Be A Heart Hero

February 4, 2010 · Leave a Comment

I cannot believe we’re already halfway through 3rd quarter!  WOW!  The school year is flying by and we’ve been busy, but having lots of fun in P.E.!!!

The 2nd, 3rd, and 4th graders  have been learning the major muscles and bones in the human body and we also just completed all of the Physical Fitness Tests:  sit-ups, sit-n-reach, shuttle run, pacer, and pull-ups.

We’ve played lots of games and introduced several activities, but the most recent unit we completed was the Rock Wall!   Thank you again, CONCO, for donating the rock wall to us!  We have lots of good climbers at Willard South :)

Jump Rope For Heart is right around the corner!  Information is being passed out this week for our event which will be held during PE class the week of Feb. 15.   More information will be coming soon!!!

I would also like to take this opportunity to welcome my new student teacher, Brandon Scott.  “Coach Scott” comes to us from Evangel University and will be working with us for 6 weeks.  He attended Branson High School where he excelled as a 3-sport athlete in Cross Country, Basketball, and Baseball.

Brandon is currently on the Evangel Crusader’s baseball team and will be graduating in May with a degree in Physical Education/Personal Training.  Welcome to Willard South, Brandon!  We’re happy to have you working with us!

Cupstacking begins!

November 4, 2009 · Leave a Comment

We’re in full swing second quarter in P.E. and cupstacking has begun!  The science behind cupstacking includes improved hand-eye coordination and reaction time, right and left brain activation, bilateral coordination, and even fitness!  Please take the time to look through the information being passed out this week.

If you’re interested in purchasing cupstacks (might make  a  GREAT Christmas present :) , please fill out the order form, make checks payable to Willard South Elementary, and return it to me, Coach Ferguson, by Fri., Nov. 20.  I will need your order no later than that date in order to receive the cupstacks before Christmas Break!

We’re off and running!

September 30, 2009 · Leave a Comment

We’re off and running and having a blast first quarter in PE!

I would like to personally thank Coach McKan, my student teacher from MSU, for doing an AWESOME job!  Coach McKan will complete his time with us on Oct. 15 before finishing up his last eight weeks of student teaching at Pipkin Junior High in Springfield.  We will be sad to see him leave, but want to wish him the best of luck as he graduates and persues a teaching degree!

Pin Blast, bowling, soccer, volleyball and juggling are just a few of the fun activities we have introduced this quarter.  These activities have helped the students with their gross and fine motor skills, aiming and tossing accuracy, and eye-hand coordination.

We have also stretched and exercised core muscles and worked on our cardiovasucular endurance by jogging and playing a variety of tag games.

We’re looking forward to finishing first quarter strong and having an even better second quarter!!!
