HAPPY HOLIDAYS

I hope everyone had a wonderful, restful Thanksgiving break!  Now…the anticipation of Christmas is in the air:)

The students have had a very busy first semester in PE!  They have played volleyball, bowling, holiday games and cupstacking, just to name a few!  Ask you 2nd, 3rd, and 4th graders about muscles and bones, because they’ve learned A LOT of them.  They’ve also taken all five of the Presidential Physical Fitness Tests:  sit-ups, sit-n-reach, shuttle run, flexed-arm hang/pull-ups, and pacer!

Once Christmas break is over and we’ve brought in the new year, we will begin preparing for our Jump Rope For Heart event!  LAST YEAR WE RAISED OVER $6,200 FOR THE AMERICAN HEART ASSOCIATION!!!  Willard South was the top money-raising school in Southwest Missouri and we finished 14th overall in the state of Missouri!!!  Way to go, Willard South!

Enjoy the much-needed time off, Merry Christmas and Happy 2012!

P.E.ACE Begins With Me

Welcome back to the new school year!  I hope everyone enjoyed their summer break and they’re ready for another fun and exciting year in P.E.

Our theme this year is PEACE begins with you and me.   The character ed word for August is ACCOUNTABLE and September’s word  is RESPECT :)

I have lots of games and activities planned this year in P.E., so lace up those tennis shoes and get ready to stretch, exercise, run, LEARN, and have LOTS of fun in 2011-2012!

Record amount raised for JRFH

I am so proud of our Willard South students!  Our goal this year was to raise $3500 for the American Heart Association, and we not only beat last year’s total,  we set a new reoord by raising a grand total of $6,192!  WAY TO GO!!!

I also wanted to say thank you to our spring semester student teacher Matt Garriott!  “Coach G” came to us from Evangel University where he played football and currently serves as an assistant coach on their staff.  He will be graduating in a couple of weeks and I know ALL of us are going to miss having him here at South.  Good luck, Coach G, and best wishes :)

Field Day 2011 is scheduled for Thurs., May 19.  (The rain date is Friday, May 20.)  T-shirts have been ordered and volunteers are needed!  Anyone wanting to help part of the day or the entire day should contact Coach Ferguson at 862-6308, ext. 22!

Ready, Set, Jump!

It’s that time of year again!   Our Jump Rope For Heart event will take place in PE Feb. 28-March 4., 2011.  Envelopes and online fundraising forms have gone out and money collected must be turned in no later than  March 11  Make checks payable to The American Heart Association and/or send cash only (no coins PLEASE)!   Last year we raised $3,432…this year our goal is $3,500!  Any student that raises $5 or more will be given special thank you gift(s) from the American Heart Association.  The Willard South student that raises the most money will be recognized at our third quarter Tiger Pride Assembly,  receive a JRFH medalion, get their name engraved on the plaque, get to sign the 2010-2011 JRFH banner that hangs in our gym, and be given a $100 gift card to Toys-R-Us  from me as a special thank you :)

Thank you Coach David

Coach David

Where has this school year gone?  I cannot believe Christmas is right around the corner!

The 2nd, 3rd, and 4th graders took all five physical fitness tests:  sit-ups (core strength), sit-n-reach (flexibility), shuttle run (agility), flexed arm hang (upper body strength), and pacer (endurance).  We also learned about some of the major muscles and bones in our body.  We’ve been stretching, exercising, playing every type of tag game imaginable, and have participated in lots of fun holiday games and activities!

I would like to say a special thank you to “Coach David”, our student teacher from Evangel University, for doing a WONDERFUL job!  David is from Fayetteville, AR, played four years of football at Evangel, and just finished helping coach football at Evangel serving as their special teams assistant coach.  His six weeks at Willard South have flown by and we’re all going to miss him!  He will be graduating in December with a degree in K-12 physical education, so congratulations to Coach David and good luck :)

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year everyone :)

BASIC TRAINING 101

Welcome back to the new 2010-2011 school year!  I hope everyone had a relaxing and enjoyable summer break, but you’re now ready to begin Willard South Elementary boot camp!

We will be jogging, running, skipping, galloping, stretching, exercising, and playing lots of fun games and activities!  We will be learning about our bodies (muscles, bones, and organs), and about the importance of good nutrition and exercise.

On Oct. 25, we will be welcoming our new student teacher from Evangel University, David Flores.  So let’s start the new school year with good attitudes and lots of enthusiasm, and get our minds and bodies ready for Basic Training 101!!!

Thank You Coach Scott :)

Willard South would like to say “thank you” to student teacher Coach Scott from Evangel University for a job well done!   Coach Scott has completed his student teaching at Willard South, will finish his last 6 weeks at Willard High School, graduate in May and get married in June :)   We would like to wish him the best of luck for the future as he persues a career in physical education!

Presidential physical fitness testing is now over and these students were the top scorers in each catagory:

Third quarter is gone and fourth quarter has started…time to start thinking about Field Day!  Willard South will have their Field Day on Tues., May 18, with Wed. and Thurs. as possible rain dates.  Field Day t-shirt information will be coming soon :)

I Saved a Life!!

Students who have raised $50 or more.
